Strong team effort in Weymouth / Ben Renshaw wins parkrun in field of nearly 500 runners

Bridport Runners started the 2019 race season at the Weymouth parkrun with a Bang! 18 Bridport Runners attended the highly frequented, quick 5k race – and Ben Renshaw came first place in a time of 17 min. 29 seconds. Second Bridport Runner and still in the Top 10 was Chris Monteith in 19:17, third finisher from Bridport was Sam Rose in 20:03. Well done to the whole team (including Ruth who was marshalling and taking pictures on the day)! See all official parkrun results here.

The interim course along the Weymouth beach front attracted almost 500 runners this morning, and Bridport Runners represented the 2nd biggest team after Egdon Heath Harriers (51 runners). Among them were first-time park runners like Mike Budd as well as parkrun veterans such as Chris (71 runs). The first race of the new year brought new PBs for Tony Logan, Claire Wynn and Victoria Ackerman, John Riley’s first race after a longer pause, Tanya Remnant on her first run in Weymouth, and a fierce competition between Claire and Hagen Gerle for place 80 which ended in a draw (same official time). The Weymouth parkrun also marked the first out of 22 optional races in the 2019 Club Championship (five are needed to qualify). Adam Slater has kindly calculated the following preliminary interim leader board with this morning’s official results.
