Bridport Runner Ben Renshaw finished 169th in today’s Great North Run in Newcastle in a time of 1 hour 23 minutes 44 seconds. To put that in perspective: According to the organisers there were 43,000 runners starting in this half-marathon, making Ben a member of the top 0.4% (!) of all finishers. Well done, Ben – Bridport Runners are proud of you! Ben’s split times were spot-on: 18:16 min. for 5k, 38:19 for 10k and just under one hour (59:25) after 15k which meant he was running every kilometre under 4 min. (or every mile under 6:25 min.) “Geezers, I wasn’t expecting that heat!”, commented Ben after the race. “Still it cooled down around ten miles in, and I felt a lot better and put in a strong finish. Still that’s another one of my bucket list!”
Winner of the prestigious race which claims to be the world’s biggest half-marathon was British athlete Mo Farah who won the Great North Run for the fifth consecutive year in a time of 59:26 min, only four seconds short of his best result on this event.
