Ben succeeds in 70th year of Shave Cross Mini Marathon

What a lovely local race! In the 70th (!) year of the Shave Cross Mini Marathon, the Club not only honoured this traditional race by entering with 10 Bridport Runners but also by winning two trophies: Ben, starting with race number “1”, handled the pressure (easily) and won the race in just under 29 minutes. Les won his age category once more.

It was not the first time, that the two have succeeded in this rural tough 5 mile race outside Bridport – their names have been engraved in the trophies before: Ben had won the Shave Cross Mini Marathon the last time in 2013, and Les had won his age category in recent years. However, rumours are not true that he participated in the Shave Cross Mini-Marathon from the very beginning …

Together with Ben and Les (finished as No. 51) started Bridport Runners Clive (17th overall and 2nd Bridport Runner to finish), Tony Logan (24th, 3rd), Hagen (27th), Paul (33rd), Jim (42nd), Jill (56th), Ruth (57th) and Emma (61st) plus Ruth’s husband Matt (21st); see all their results here. Despite the still very warm temperatures in the evening (around 25 degrees at the start at 7:00 pm) they all managed quite well on the short but tough, hilly course through the country lanes near the Shave Cross. And afterwards there was a bar, BBQ, prize presentation and a lovely evening while the sun went down over Pilsdon.
