Santa Run: A test run with minced pies

First you have to run ─ then you get your minced pie! West Bay Days’ Committee hosted their traditional Christmas Tree light up at the Harbour Green today and Bridport Runners contributed to the event with their first “Santa Run”. Even though the number of runners on the 5k race around West Bay and the harbour side was relatively small, they all liked the speedy and mainly traffic free course. Winner of the 5k was 16 year old Joseph Sherwood in 18 minutes 32 sec., followed by his two year younger brother Harry (19:52) and 17 year old Kieran Mulhall (20:35). Well done, boys! See the 5k results here. In the 1 mile Fun Run Eli Ross and Rowan Crane were the fastest boy and the fastest girl.

Exhausted, but beaming both younger and older runners enjoyed afterwards lovely minced pies, biscuits and hot coffee in St. John’s Church, supplied The West Bay Women’s Institute and donations from local people and businesses, and the concert by St. Swithun’s Band. Thanks a lot to all the helpers of Bridport Runners, to Jane, Kay and Astrid and the West Bay Days’ Committee!

“The run was good today , hopefully word of mouth will get more runners next time”, said Bridport Runner Sarah afterwards who helped in registering the runners and giving out medals. Right she is! Judging this first event as a “test run”, the organisers agreed that Santa needs more company next year, so they set a date for the Santa Run 2017 already: Sunday, 3rd of December 2017, it is with the 5k race starting around 3:00 pm from The Harbour Green in West Bay!
