The Black Mountains Ultra: Kazy and Ben on a 40 miles (ish) adventure!

Bridport Runners are obviously capable of all kind of terrains and courses: 5k, 10k, half and full marathons – and now it’s even ultras! To be precise: Kazy and Ben thought that 42k was not enough for them and signed in for the 3rd round of the Welsh Trail Running Series last Saturday, The Black Mountains. The course: 40 miles (ish) with an early start at 7:30 am. Kazy and Ben, this is truly amazing – well done to both of you! “It was a toughie”, admits Kazy after their finish. “Huge HUGE mountains, rain, unrelenting wind drains warmth and physical and mental energy, as does the tricky often ankle breaking terrain.” However, all the same it was a “truly spectacular, exhilarating and expanding uplifting experience”, she says. Ben agrees: “It was a brilliant day with rain, wind, fog, sunshine and big hills. The best bit was running along the ridge path in the sun. The worst bit was stumbling along the ridge path in battering side winds wondering when we were ever going to go down again. Kazy was amazingly strong on the hills. A real team effort.”

Oh, their time? Well, try to imagine how it is to be on your feet for just under 11 hours …
