What do these two whales (yes, they are two) and Bridport Runners have in common? Before you start twisting your brain for any half-intelligent answer, here is a clue: Bristol. The whales are a temporary art installation in front of the Science Centre as part of Bristol’s year as European Green Capital and are made of Somerset willow. The ocean in which they swim is made of 70,000 plastic bottles which were collected from the Bristol 10k and the BATHALF 2014 … and in the latter five Bridport Runners participated last year. According to the Artist, “the bottles represent the detrimental effect of plastics in the ocean and will be recycled after the sculpure is dismantled.” If you want to see it yourself: The Bristol Whales are on display until 1st of September.
