Whether it’s the wish to shake off the excess of the festive season, to achieve a New Year’s resolution or just to be among other people who like running, too: Bridport Runners’ new Beginners Group ‘From couch to 5K’ should cater for all these needs. The new class starts Wednesday, 14th of January, at 5:45 pm at the Bridport Football Club car park opposite the Bridport Leisure Centre. It will take place every Wednesday night from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. The goal of this six weeks’ course is to …get anyone fit to run 5 kilometres (approx. 3 miles) in one go – whether you had little or no training before at all. In autumn 2013 and spring 2014, Bridport Runners had organised their first two Beginners groups which turned out to be quite successful, attracting around 25 women and men of different ages and experience levels in running. Some of these beginners have become members of the Club since and have moved on to run longer distances. They even started participating in 10K and half-marathon races, e.g. in the Bournemouth Marathon Festival and the Exeter Great West Run (a half-marathon).
The training will be organised by two qualified coaches. All novices will receive a gentle introduction into running and will not only be trained in finding the right running style but in gaining endurance and speed, as well. For the last session, all beginners will be invited to go for the 5K Weymouth parkrun. The costs of this course are £12 which will be refunded if the participant chooses to join Bridport Runners afterwards.
