“Bridport Jurassic Coast Run” leads runners along Broadchurch locations

A challenge with a thrill: The Leisure Centre, Brit Valley Rotary Club and Bridport Runners are hosting a 10k and a 5k cross-country run this summer which will not only be thrilling from an athletic point of view. It will also lead the runners along the Jurassic Coast, passing original locations from the latest TV murder series “Broadchurch”. The “Bridport Jurassic Coast Run” will take place on Sunday, 14 July, starting at 9:00 am at the Leisure Centre (Entry Form here). The race organisers revived “The Great Bridport Fun Run” last year at the Leisure Centre attracting more than 70 participants. There are three different distances to choose from – a one mile fun run and two serious runs of five and ten kilometres. The Family Fun Run is exactly what it says: a fun run for the whole family on a one mile long, flat course around the fields of the Leisure Centre with an optional treasure hunt. The 5k run which includes the beautiful Jurassic Coast at West Bay is mainly aimed at novice runners and those who want to get back into running after a break.

The highlight, however, is the 10k run which will be mainly off-road, using tracks and footpaths. This route will lead the participants to the top of the second highest hill on the south coast, Thorncombe Beacon near Eype. It is therefore aimed at established runners and those wishing to undertake the next step up. The 10k will be a timed event with prizes on offer. And while climbing up the steep hills at the coast, runners will notice a couple of familiar looking locations they might have seen on the TV drama “Broadchurch” having gripped close to nine million viewers a few weeks ago.

Thanks to the support of West Dorset Leisure Holidays at Eype the two longer runs will cross the caravan park and joining fields of Highlands End, giving especially the 10k runners a spectacular view of Thorncombe Beacon – and what lies ahead of them.

Activities at the Leisure Centre on the day will include a bouncy castle, an inflatable session in the swimming pool, taster sessions and free use of the Centre’s facilities; food and refreshments will be provided as well. Entries for all runs will be taken in advance and on the day at the Leisure Centre. Bridport Runners will host a preparation training for those wanting to participate and getting fit; please contact Club Secretary Brian Shelley  for further information: Tel.
